At Riverside Clay Play Club
For the last three years, Tanja has conducted numerous hand-building workshops and foundation courses, and now with Riverside's new clay space, private wheel lessons as well.
A common question from participants is about creating simple yet attractive handles for their pottery pieces. To address this, Tanja has teamed up with Hazel Ashton, a retired potter with extensive experience and a clear, gentle teaching style. Together, they will guide participants through four techniques, focusing on developing skills in creating clay pottery handles.
The workshop is highly creative, hands-on, and a bit messy, so dress accordingly as clay stains might not wash out completely. It is open to those already familiar with clay work, focusing on technique practice rather than producing a finished product for immediate take-home. However, participants will leave with the confidence to craft and attach their own handles in the future.
This workshop will be held at the new Clay Play Club, located in the octagonal building across from the milk vending shed. Attendees should bring a rolling pin and, if possible, a leather hard stage pot to practice on, though some will be provided for convenience.
Limited to 10 participants. Bookings are essential and close close Tuesday, 11th March at 2pm. Book Now
This workshop is proudly sponsored by the Riverside Community Trust. Please contact Tanja (at education@riverside.org.nz) for workshop questions or to ask about sponsorship options.
