Yoga is an Art of Life, mostly taught in western countries through the postures approach (Asanas). But Yoga is not only Asanas, it includes 8 different limbs:
1, 2) Yama and Niyama, which have to do with ethics.
3) Asana, the postures.
4) Pranayama, which deals with the functionning of the breath.
5) Pratyahara, to quieten mind and senses and draw them inwards.
6) Dharana, concentration, that when continues for a long time leads to Dhyana.
7) Dhyana, meditation.
The purpose of this course is an initiation to Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana and Dhyana through theory and practice. It also includes the teaching of the Bandhas, or contractions, which allow deep relaxation of the rest of the body, and are performed during Pranayama practice.
This course is open to Yoga and Chi Kung practitioners who have already developed a sense of inner work in the body.
Facilitator Marie, has learnt Astanga yoga and Vipassana meditation in India, 30 years ago and have taught breathing in Auroville for 15 years before coming to New Zealand. She also practised Chi Kung for 17 years.
