About the Event
Transform your worn-out woollens and denims into fashion statements in this visible mending workshop, led by Jacqui Chan and Franka Haeussner.
This three-hour workshop is a community event that will begin with instruction and guidance in visible mending, followed by practice. Later we will screen a short film about people's relationship with their clothing. You no longer need to throw out your favourite clothes just because they have a rip, hole or are fraying at the edges.
Visible mending is repair work that is intentionally made visible. This is a growing trend and you'll find thousands of examples online of garments that are made to look better than new with some stylish stitching patterns!
Franka and Jacqui both have an affinity for fabrics and handcrafts and a wealth of experience in sewing and fixing up garments. Celebrating the mends that bring new life to old clothes. Let's mend the world, not trash it.
Bring any extra thread and needles you have on hand. We will also provide thread, fabric and needles to work with.
Tea and biscuits will be provided. Please bring a mug.
Limited to 20 participants. Sponsorships available (just ask). Bookings essential!
This workshop is proudly sponsored by the Riverside Community Trust. Please contact Tanja (at education@riverside.org.nz) for workshop questions or to ask about sponsorship options.
