About the Event
Scraffito is Italian and means “scratched”; if you are interested in pottery, you are bound to have come across this term – but even if working with clay is relatively new to you, you will have seen this clay pottery decoration technique, where a top layer of clay is scratched away to reveal a contrasting colour or design underneath.
Crafting something from clay using your hands is a truly remarkable experience. Initially, you're faced with a sticky mass – then with a bit of squeezing, rolling, or pinching – and suddenly, you've created a stunning piece of art or a practical item such as a bowl, cup, or plate. Elevating this process, the technique of sgraffito lets you embellish the raw clay with unique designs of your own making.
This workshop has three stages: first, participants will create a simple hand-built piece using a technique of their choice…
