About the Event
Here is a unique opportunity for you to spend a couple of hours bonding with one of your favourite young people, exploring a new tactile craft that you may not have had the opportunity to experience. This workshop is designed to create lasting memories and strengthen your bond in a fun and creative way.
Befitting the winter solstice month, we will make beautiful little candle houses.
Tanja will help participants in this beginner-level workshop gain a feel for the clay, create a simple candle house, and personalise it. Each piece is unique, and the time spend making it as a team with your own hands will leave you with treasured memories. You can freeform a clay house of your own invention, or, if you are stuck for ideas, follow a step-by-step process.
Children especially love the physical, sensory, and mental experience of squeezing, pinching, and shaping a piece of wet clay into something funny, interesting, or beautiful. It is such a gentle process that it is grounding and calming as well as stimulating and inspiring.
This session is creative, 100% hands-on, and potentially a bit messy; please dress (yourself and your children) accordingly. Clay stains may not wash out of some fabrics.
Please note that the candle houses will not be fired—you can take them home straight away. :) Unfired work does keep, but it cannot get wet and is relatively fragile, so please bring a small wooden board or a plate that you want to keep your work on. Please also bring your own rolling pin and a small wooden board or a plate to keep your work on.
Limited to 10 adult-child pairs. Payment of $35 is for one pair. Bookings are essential. Bookings close Thursday, 20th June at 2pm. The workshop will take place in our brand new Clay Play Club near the Riverside Milk Vending Shed.
This workshop is proudly sponsored by the Riverside Community Trust. Please contact Tanja (at education@riverside.org.nz) for workshop questions or to ask about sponsorship options.
